LONDON EYE
The London Eye is one of the most iconic landmarks in London. Situated on the South Bank of the River Thames, it offers visitors a unique perspective of the city from its 32 sealed and air-conditioned passenger capsules. Standing at a height of 135 meters (443 feet), the London Eye was the world’s tallest observation wheel when it was erected in 1999 to mark the turn of the millennium.
On a clear day, riders can see up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the top, providing panoramic views that encompass many of London’s most famous landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, and even as far as Windsor Castle on the horizon.
After a 30-minute journey, you’ll return to the ground, having completed one full circle. The ride is gentle and consistent, making it enjoyable for all ages, provided they’re comfortable with heights. Plus, the wheel is fully wheelchair-friendly.
Aside from its impressive stature and views, the London Eye has become a symbol of modern London, juxtaposing the historic architecture of the surrounding area. Its nighttime illumination also makes it a beautiful sight in the evening London skyline. Whether it’s a first-time visit or a special occasion, a trip on the London Eye is often considered a must-do for many visitors to the capital.
